Presents

Perimeter Containment and Suspect Tactics Class

 Jack Schonley – Presenter

Jack Schonley presented at the November 2009 ITOA Annual Conference.  This class is an in-depth look at Perimeter Containment and Suspect Tactics.

Topics that will be discussed are current trends being used by suspects as they attempt to evade law enforcement on foot, hiding locations, search techniques, and tactics law enforcement officers can use to contain and capture criminals on the run.  Videos and several officer down debriefs will be used to demonstrate the importance of staying a step ahead of experienced street smart criminals.

Jack H. Schonely has been in law enforcement for the past 29 years.  He has been a member of the Los Angeles Police Department since 1983 and is currently assigned to the Air Support Division as a pilot.

He has worked patrol, vice, gangs, and was a K-9 Handler for 5 years prior to going to Air Support as a Tactical Flight Officer.

Jack is a nationally recognized expert in the area of suspect tactics, perimeter containment, search techniques, and foot pursuits.  He has authored numerous articles on this topic and others for Vertical 911, Police Magazine, Police K-9 Magazine, and Vertical Magazine.  He is also the author of the book "Apprehending Fleeing Suspects; Suspect Tactics and Perimeter Containment.  He lectures on this topic to law enforcement across North America .

Jack has a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania .

Tuesday May 11th,   8 AM to 4 PM at The Illinois State Fairgrounds

Illinois Tactical Officers Association K9 Field Training Exercise

Sangamon and 8th Street,  Gate 11 BLDG #29, Springfield Illinois.

This course is designed to provide K9 teams and patrol officers with challenging deployment scenarios. Teamwork is essential among K9 teams and police   officers. However, most current training models only address a K9 team as an “Individual”. A team approach with K9 and patrol during a deployment increases the probability of a successful and safe resolution.

  Class topics:

         Arrest Techniques with K9

       High Risk searching techniques

       Back Up Officers Responsibilities

       Team Tactics

This course works to improve handler’s tactical skill sets and patrol officer’s responsibilities while working with a K9 team. This course is for K9 teams of all skill levels and line-level officers, supervisors, and trainers. Students should bring a lunch, as there will be limited breaks. A detailed equipment list will be provided upon registration.

E-Mail FTX Coordinators with any questions:

 Danny Ramirez   and  Eric Helton
