Polk County FL K-9 Incident Debrief

Featuring Jeff Barrett

The Illinois Tactical Officers Association is hosting an incident debrief on the tragic 2006 murder of Polk County K-9 Handler Deputy Matt Williams and his K-9 “Diogi” in central Florida. These debrief highlights the high risks associated with fugitive tracking, especially rural tracks in the wooded areas. It will emphasize the importance of high-risk tactical deployment techniques, proper cover, officer selection, and training. This riveting and powerful presentation is an example of the dangers facing K-9 teams during a high-risk fugitive track.

The speaker, K-9 Handler Jeff Barrett, has served the city of Lakeland, Florida as a K-9 Handler for twenty years.  He is currently the Trainer and Coordinator for his department’s K-9 division. Jeff also serves as a Trainer and Judge for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the United States Canine Association.

One of Jeff’s recent seminar attendees made the following comments, “Comprehensive and demanding. Your presentation and debriefing on the killing of Deputy Matt Williams and his police dog was powerful and insightful for the tactically minded officer.”

ITOA encourages all levels of law enforcement personnel to attend.
