presents Polk County FL K-9 Incident Debrief Featuring Jeff Barrett The Illinois Tactical Officers Association is hosting an incident debrief on the tragic 2006 murder of Polk County K-9 Handler Deputy Matt Williams and his K-9 “Diogi” in central Florida. These debrief highlights the high risks associated with fugitive tracking, especially rural tracks in the wooded areas. It will emphasize the importance of high-risk tactical deployment techniques, proper cover, officer selection, and training. This riveting and powerful presentation is an example of the dangers facing K-9 teams during a high-risk fugitive track. The speaker, K-9 Handler
Jeff Barrett, has served the city of Lakeland, Florida as a K-9 Handler
for twenty years. He is
currently the Trainer and Coordinator for his department’s K-9
division. Jeff also serves as a Trainer and Judge for the Florida
Department of Law Enforcement and the United States Canine Association. One of Jeff’s recent
seminar attendees made the following comments, “Comprehensive and
demanding. Your presentation and debriefing on the killing of Deputy
Matt Williams and his police dog was powerful and insightful for the
tactically minded officer.” ITOA encourages all levels

The Illinois Police Work Dog Association is honored to host the 2009 North American Police Work Dog Association National Workshop, June 21 – 27, 2009 in Northbrook, IL. During this weeklong training event, there will be more than 300 K9 teams from across the US and Canada present, along with their families.
