Danville Police Department K-9 Dino - RETIRED

Officer Howie of the Danville Police Department retired his K-9 partner Dino on July 1, 2005. K-9 Dino served with the Danville Police Dept from June 2000 to July 2005 as a patrol/narcotics dog. K-9 Dino was 8 years old when he retired due to health issues. Dino enjoyed his time going to work and will be missed by his handler, the Danville Police Dept. and the Citizens of Danville.

Besides K-9 Dino's numerous drug finds he is also credited with the tracking of two armed subjects that had attempted to steal anhydrous ammonia and then shot at police in Indiana. Dino received an "outstanding service award" through NAPWDA in 2001 for locating and apprehending these two suspects.

K-9 Dino also received commendations for tracking a murder suspect in below zero temperatures and for an incident on Christmas Day 2004 during his career. During this incident K-9 Dino tracked a suspect after a car and foot chase in Southern Vermilion County. As Vermilion County Deputies attempted to locate the person in a corn field, the suspect fired shots at the Deputies leading to a 5 hour standoff. The suspect was able to escape the perimeter and steal a wrecker and flee to Indiana where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.  K-9 Dino responded and immediately picked up the scent of the suspect and tracked him making the apprehension a short time later.
